Kaweco Liliput
I bought a Kaweco Sport fountain pen when I was in Berlin this summer, great looking pens from Germany. {Cool Hunting} more
Named for the diminutive island dwellers of Gulliver's Travels, Liliput is a petite new pen from heritage German pen-maker Kaweco. True to its name, the pen measures only 3.8 inches when closed, expanding to five when posed for writing. At first glance, the cylindrical capsule could be anything from an EpiPen to an elongated pillbox, but don't let its austerity fool you. Made from solid aluminum, it takes refillable cartridges and at only eight grams, weighs next to nothing. -Cool Hunting

Speculative moldmaking
A friend of mine (a computer science major) asked me if creating iphone cases is a profitable business? I said sure if you have half a million dollars laying around maybe (which is usually the costs required to get a steel mold created for the product). Anyway I came across this interesting article about the industry and sent it to him from {core77} more
On the morning of Apple's Oct. 4 announcement, top managers at Palo Alto startup Speck huddled into a conference room filled with colorful MacBooks to watch the news trickle in. They had created several rough models of potential new designs for the next iPhone, but were far from committing to any of them. "We have no idea what's going to hit the market," says Irene Baran, Speck's CEO. "We listen to the rumors like everyone else does and make intelligent guesses." -core77

New Reebok NHL Jerseys
This year Reebok has designed new jerseys for several NHL teams across the league. Some notables...the new Winnipeg Jets jersey (formerly the Atlanta Thrashers), and the new alternate heritage jersey for the Ottawa Senators. The Senators jersey is a replica of the old on warn by the Senators in the early 1900s. The original jersey was actually analyzed from archives to make sure the colors and graphics were accurate. {NHL.com}

"In most people's vocabularies, design means veneer. It's interior decorating. It's the fabric of the curtains of the sofa. But to me, nothing could be further from the meaning of design. Design is the fundamental soul of a human-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service."
